The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Department says a woman was shot very early Wednesday morning and her husband has been arrested. According to Detective Rhonda Jordan, it happened shortly after 3:00 in a home in the Marlow Community.
Jordan said the 37-year-old woman told deputies that she was asleep in a chair in the living room when she was shot. Jordan said deputies learned that her husband, Richard Gunter, was also asleep in a chair next to her and he was holding a handgun.
However, Jordan said Gunter told deputies that he had no recollection of firing the gun.
Gunter was arrested and charged with Illegal Discharge of a Weapon and Negligent Injuring. His bond was set at $ 35,000.00.
Meanwhile, the woman is recovering in a Lake Charles hospital.
