Wildfire danger predicted to increase in this region

The mostly sunny skies, northerly breezes and lower humidity that we’ve been enjoying comes with a cost. The Texas A&M Forest Service has issued a prediction of growing wildfire danger across this region going into June. Most of Newton County, a pocket of east-central Jasper County, and nearly all of Sabine County have been placed in the next to highest risk for wildfires. Meanwhile, a medium risk of wildfires is predicted for the rest of Jasper and Newton Counties, most of San Augustine County, and the east/southeast/south portions of Tyler County. Local fire departments in the affected areas are urging people to be careful with outdoor burning in the coming days. Never leave a controlled burn unattended, and always have a water source to keep it under control.
