A Westlake man is under arrest after an unborn baby died as a result of a crash in Westlake Tuesday evening.
Joshua Anderson, 24, was arrested for third-degree feticide; two counts of first-degree vehicular negligent injuring; vehicular negligent injuring; first-offense DWI; resisting an officer; failure to stop at a stop sign; and driving on a roadway laned for traffic; battery on a police officer. Anderson’s bond for the third degree feticide at $500,000. He has a total bond of $504,000
The crash happened around 6 p.m. at the intersection of Goss Road and Miller Avenue in Westlake, according to information from Kayla Vincent, spokeswoman for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Anderson, 24, was traveling east in a four-door pickup down the middle of Goss Road when he ran a stop sign, Vincent said. He struck a four-door pickup that was headed south on Miller Avenue, causing both trucks to travel off the roadway, flipping into a ditch. The driver of the other truck and the front seat passenger, who was 21 weeks pregnant, were transported by ambulance to a local hospital by ambulance. A 2-year-old passenger, who was in a car seat in the backseat, was airlifted to a hospital out of town.
Deputies found Anderson to show signs of impairment and saw “numerous empty beer bottles” inside his truck, Vincent said.
During further questioning, Anderson refused to cooperate and kicked a deputy, Vincent said. He refused a standard field sobriety and a breath intoxilyzer test and was arrested.
Deputies obtained a warrant to have his blood drawn for a toxicology report. After the blood sample was collected at a hospital, he was booked into Calcasieu Correctional Center.
The driver of the other truck was later released from the hospital with minor injuries. The woman remains in the hospital in serious condition and the 2-year-old child remains in ICU in critical condition.
The crash is still under investigation.
Sgt. Bryan Alexander is the lead investigator.
