A wanted man was captured by Jasper Police after he tried to flee from an officer on a bicycle. A report filed by Sergeant Brian Gray said it happened shortly before 9:00 Wednesday night on Martin Luther King at Dennis Drive when he tried to stop 36-year-old Andre Lewis for riding the bike on the street with no lights or reflectors. Instead of stopping, the report said Lewis fled but was quickly captured. According to the report, Lewis was named in warrants issued by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department for the following offenses:
~ Assault/Family Violence – Impeding Breathing or Circulation
~ Interference with Emergency Request for Assistance
~ Evading Arrest or Detention
~ Resisting Arrest
Lewis was taken to the Jasper County Jail and booked in on those charges along with a new charge of Evading Arrest or Detention.
