Two vehicles collided late Wednesday afternoon in Brookeland. It happened at about 3:45 on Highway 96 at Loop 149 South.
Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark said 22-year-old Jessica Leyja, of Jasper, was driving a Nissan SUV northbound on Highway 96 and she started to turn left onto Loop 149 South.
Sergeant Clark said a Dodge pickup truck, driven by 77-year-old Arthur Upton, of Pineland, was behind her and he started passing in a no passing zone.
When the SUV began turning, the passenger side of the pickup hit the front of the SUV.
Leyja and Upton were not injured. Sergeant Clark said Upton received a citation for Disregarding a No-Passing Zone.
