RAPIDES PARISH, La. (KALB) - Update: Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office stated on Saturday, May 25, that the body of the missing fisherman, now identified as Car’Tracus Mitchell, 20, of Cheneyville was recovered Saturday morning. RPSO reported that search efforts for Mitchell resumed early Saturday morning and that a body was discovered about one mile away from the weir at Bayou Boeuf. The body was positively identified as Mitchell and now awaits an autopsy to determine their official cause of death. Witnesses reported on Thursday, May 23, that Mitchell was fishing near the weir, when he slipped down the concrete embankment and was swept away by the current. RPSO thanked the Alexandria Fire Department, Lecompte Police Department, District 18 Fire Department, Acadian Ambulance, and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries for their help with the search. The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office and other agencies are currently searching for a missing fisherman. RPSO said they responded to a report of a person falling into Bayou Boeuf near the weir off of Hwy 112 on Thursday evening (May 23) around 6:30 p.m. Witnesses said a person was fishing near the weir, when he slipped down the concrete embankment and was swept away by the current.
