LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - A Lufkin woman has been arrested after a 2-year-old boy was brought to a hospital and tested positive for THC.
The child was brought to CHI Hospital in Lufkin on April 29 after his caretakers noticed he wasn’t waking up, according to an affidavit KLTV obtained through an open records request. The document says the boy would only respond to “painful stimuli” by ER staff. After testing positive for THC, he was transferred to a pediatric intensive care unit in The Woodlands for a higher level of treatment.
One of the women who brought him to the hospital, Brianna Rene Lawrence, 19, admitted to having marijuana containing THC and THC vapes, which investigators found during a search of her home, the affidavit says.
Lawrence was booked into the Angelina County Jail on a charge of injury to child by criminal negligence as a consequence of allowing the boy to access or be affected by THC products, according to the document. Her bond has been set at $20,000, and she remains in custody at the time of writing.
No further information has been released on the condition of the child.
