The rain that dropped on parts of Southeast Texas may be partially responsible for the arrest of two women on burglary charges after their vehicle got stuck in mud while they were trying to leave the scene, according to Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard.
Emily Cowart, 21, of VIdor, and Casey Guerrero, 38, of Groves, are in the Jasper County Jail on charges of Burglary of a Habitation.
Officers say the investigation began Sunday when Deputy Walker and Deputy Daigle were sent to the 600 block of County Road 828, known as Sunset Drive, on a Burglary of a Habitation call. When the deputies arrived, they made contact with the victim who told them two women, identified as Emily Cowart, 21, of Vidor and Casey Guerrero, 38, of Groves, broke into her home and assaulted her. The victim stated the assault stemmed from an argument earlier in the evening. The victim advised the suspects gained entry into the home through a window and once inside, forcefully kicked open the victim's bedroom door and began attacking her.
Both suspects were still on scene because their vehicle became stuck in the mud.
Deputies arrested Cowart and Guerrero on burglary charges and drove them to jail.
