CHINA, Texas (July 30, 2026) — Two people rescued from a burning mobile home in the community of China, west of Beaumont, have died from injuries sustained in the fire.
According to reports, emergency responders were dispatched to the residence shortly after midnight Wednesday after receiving a report that a mobile home just off U.S. Highway 90 was on fire and that two people and a dog were trapped inside.
First responders arrived to find a man and woman trapped in a bedroom. Firefighters and sheriff's deputies entered the burning structure and ultimately cut through a wall to free the victims.
The man and woman were transported for medical treatment but later succumbed to their injuries.
Officials said two other occupants of the home, who were in another area of the residence when the fire broke out, escaped without injury.
Personnel from Emergency Services District No. 4, the Sour Lake Fire Department, and local law enforcement agencies worked together to rescue the victims and battle the fire.
