A 71-year-old man has drowned on the Louisiana side of Toledo Bend Lake.
Sabine Parish Sheriff Aaron Mitchell reports a fisherman, Richard Edward Whatley, from Haughton, Louisiana, was found dead this morning around 9:30 Wednesday morning.
Whatley was located in the water near the bank at the end of Ed Callie Road in San Patricio Bay of Toledo Bend Lake.
His boat was still running nearby, according to Mitchell.
"It is unclear at this time how Whatley drowned, but investigators believe he fell out of his boat," according to the Sabine Parish Sheriff's Office.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is the investigating agency of this incident.
"Sheriff Mitchell and his staff extend their condolences to Whatley's family and friends," the agency said in a statement.
