Police in Orange tell KFDM/Fox 4 News a 19-year-old driver fleeing from the scene of a minor accident caused a major crash, injuring two others drivers and himself when his pickup truck flipped over several times, according to Capt. W.K. Longlois.
He says it all began at about 5:30 Monday night when a 1989 Ford Ford pickup truck with a 19-year-old man behind the wheel, was involved in a minor traffic accident on Highway 62 near FM 1078.
The driver left the scene of that accident, according to police, and at about 5:45 p m., a Pinehurst police officer spotted him near Strickland Drive and Martin Luther King.
He sped away, according to police, going south on Strickland Drive and striking another car near Home Depot.
The 19-year-old driver turned south onto Highway 87 and collided with three cars at the intersection with FM 105. His truck flipped several times and came to rest in the ditch.
The driver was seriously injured and taken to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital.
Two others were also rushed to St. Elizabeth from the crash scene at FM 105 with incapacitating injures.
The Bridge City Police Department, the Texas Highway Patrol, and the Orange Fire Department, all responded and helped at the scene.
The Orange Police Department and Pinehurst Police Department will continue the investigation.
