State troopers and Jasper County deputies were busy Tuesday trying to find a driver who kicked out the windshield of an overturned SUV and left the scene of the crash. It happened during the noon hour on Farm to Market Road 1005 between the Erin Community and Highway 96.
Tri-Community firefighters were first on scene and discovered the 2015 Dodge Journey empty and no sign of the driver.
DPS Sergeant Shana Clark said the driver was later found and identified as 18-year-old Jakaiya Adams, of Jasper. Clark said someone drove Adams in another vehicle to Jasper Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Skid marks on the highway indicated that the vehicle was eastbound when it went off the pavement, and then went back onto the pavement sliding sideways. The length of the skid marks also indicated that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed.
