The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department says a man has now been charged following a Tuesday afternoon shooting just northwest of Jasper. It happened at about 1:00 at a home on County Road 159, just off of Farm to Market Road 3414. Deputy Karli Cherry has identified the suspect as 46-year-old William Daniel Sims, and he has been charged with one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Causing Serious Bodily Injury of a Date/Family Member/Household Member. Precinct 5 Justice of the Peace Brett Holloway set his bond at $500,000.00. Jasper County Chief Deputy Scotty Duncan said "A dispute between two family members escalated and that's where we are at." Duncan said the alleged shooter used a .380 caliber pistol. Meanwhile, the victim, 23-year-old John Mason, was taken by ambulance to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released later that day. Duncan later said, “We are thankful that this was not much worse, heated tempers can have permanent consequences.”
