SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - Smith County deputies are continuing to search for a man accused of shooting a woman Monday night before running away from the scene.

According to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called out around 10:19 p.m. to the 19000 block of County Road 4118 after a woman reported that Christopher Hatfield had shot her in the leg. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital, where authorities said she is in stable condition after having surgery.

Investigators said Hatfield ran from the scene on foot before deputies arrived, which led to a search by Smith County patrol units and Criminal Investigation Division investigators in the surrounding area. Deputies focused their efforts around County Road 4118, County Road 452, County Road 4116, County Road 4117 and Highway 69 North. Officials said that search of the immediate area has now wrapped up.

However, according to Smith County Sheriff’s Office PIO Larry Christian, Hatfield is still at large. Investigators believe he may have been picked up by someone in a vehicle or may have made his way to a different area. Hatfield was last reported wearing all white clothing and should be considered armed and dangerous.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about where he might be to contact the Smith County Sheriff’s Office.
