BALL, La. (KALB) - A 17-year-old student at Tioga High School has been arrested for allegedly brandishing a handgun on April 19, according to the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office. RPSO said Ryan Lee Reynolds, Jr., 17, of Pineville, was sitting in a vehicle when another student passed by and Reynolds allegedly pointed a handgun at that student. The student immediately reported the incident. Reynolds was taken into custody without incident, and RPSO said a firearm was found in his vehicle. Due to the law change that occurred at midnight on April 19 with regards to 17-year-olds being able to be booked into jail, Reynolds was transported and booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center for aggravated assault with a firearm and the carrying of a firearm on school property. No bond has been set yet. The Rapides Parish School Board released this statement following the arrest:
“We are aware of the incident that happened at Tioga High School’s campus this morning regarding a report of a student allegedly brandishing a firearm in the parking lot at another student. A student immediately reported the incident to the school administration and the administration and the School Resource Officer immediately responded. The student accused of having the weapon was taken into custody without incident and detained pending further investigation. We commend the student for reporting and the administration and for our school resource officer for their immediate response to ensure that no students or employees were in danger.”
