HOUSTON COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - On Wednesday, the Houston County Sheriff’s Office received a call about an abandoned cattle trailer along Hwy 19 South. When deputies arrived to investigate, they found the trailer contained 14 large Angus cattle. Eight of the animals were dead, and the other six were removed to receive care. The investigation quickly uncovered that the cattle were stolen. The owner was notified, and the sheriff’s office is working with Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) Special Ranger Bobbitt on the theft and cruelty to livestock animals case. They said that “this type of activity will not be tolerated and we will do all we can through our office to hold these thieves and abusers accountable for their actions.” The sheriff’s office thanked local cowboys Ronnie Goolsby and Klay Currie, as well as the local TxDOT office, for helping move the live cattle and dispose of the deceased animals. If you have any information about this case, call the sheriff’s office at (936) 544-2862.
