TIMPSON, Texas — A man accused of firing a gun multiple times in an East Texas neighborhood early Saturday morning — and later threatening a deputy — was arrested after coordinated efforts from multiple agencies.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a citizen complaint around 4 a.m. on County Road 4789 southwest of Timpson. The caller reported that their neighbor had been shooting a gun and that they believed projectiles had hit their home. The caller said the gunfire and shouting had been happening throughout the night.
Shortly after, another neighbor called with a similar complaint. When a deputy responded, they heard two gunshots before reaching the driveway and saw the suspect inside the home. Dispatch was able to connect the suspect’s mother with the deputy by phone, according to the sheriff’s office.
The mother then connected the suspect to the call. The sheriff’s office said the suspect threatened the deputy, warning what would happen if another law enforcement officer responded to his home.
Deputies described the suspect as sounding “very serious” and said the situation “could easily have included an ambush” at that location.
With help from multiple agencies, the suspect was safely taken into custody, and all officers returned home unharmed. He was charged with making a terroristic threat and is awaiting a professional mental health evaluation.
