SHELBY COUNTY - Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers investigated a one- vehicle fatality crash this morning, August 5, 2023, on U.S. 96, about one and one-half miles north of Center. The preliminary crash investigation indicates at approximately 9:10 a.m., a 2023 Dodge passenger car was traveling north and failed to drive in a single lane and drove off the roadway where it struck a tree: ejecting the driver. The driver is identified as 45-year-old Michael Whisenant from Center was pronounced deceased at the scene by a Shelby County Justice of the Peace. This crash is under investigation.
