(Hemphill, Texas) During the evening hours of Monday, February 23, 2026, Todd Lawrence Stevens (36 of Bronson. Texas) who was wanted in regard to an aggravated assault which occurred Sunday, February 22, 2026 in Bronson, Texas. at his residence was arrested at his father's residence in Tishomingo, Oklahoma by the Johnston County Sheriff's Office. He was found hiding under a mattress in the master bedroom.
Also. during the afternoon hours on Monday, prior to Stevens' arrest in Johnston County, Sabine County Sheriff's Office had passed onto surrounding state and local agencies the vehicle information for a 2007 Jeep Liberty registered to Stevens' mother, Peggy Josette Sanders. The vehicle was documented as leaving the State of Oklahoma and entering Texas. This vehicle was located and stopped in the City of Sherman in North Texas. The sole occupant of the vehicle was found to be Sanders. She was arrested on unrelated charges and booked into the Grayson County Jail. During an interview with investigators with the Sherman Police Department, she did provide Stevens' location which did lead to his arrest but refused to discuss how Stevens got to his father house in Oklahoma.
Sabine County Sheriff's Office was able to obtain an additional arrest warrant for Sanders today and she now has a detainer placed charging her with hindering apprehension or prosecution of a known felon. Her bond was set at $500,000.00 dollars on this charge.
Stevens also remains in custody in Johnston County Oklahoma pending the extradition process and his bond was set at 3 million dollars.
The investigation continues and upgrades to the charges on Stevens are expected in the coming days pending the autopsy results and positive identification of the burnt human remains. Additional arrest for anyone else who assisted Stevens in his cover up and attempt to flee are still being investigated at this time.
