Jasper Police Chief Garrett Foster said Monday that on Sunday officers attempted to stop an individual for multiple traffic violations involving an electric bicycle. However, the individual failed to stop and fled the area, leading officers on a brief pursuit.
The suspect abandoned the bicycle and fled on foot into a nearby residence.
Officers located the suspect shortly thereafter and took him into custody without incident.
The suspect was identified as Christopher Collins, 26, of Jasper. Collins was charged with Evading Arrest with a Vehicle, a felony offense, and was transported to the Jasper County Jail.
No officers or members of the public were injured during the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
Foster said “This incident highlights the importance of compliance with lawful traffic stops and the commitment of our officers to safely resolve situations while protecting the public,” “Our officers acted professionally and decisively to bring this incident to a safe conclusion.”
