Jasper Police Chief Garrett Foster said Sunday that the reports on Saturday evening that shots had been fired from a passing vehicle at the police station on South Main Street were believed to be a hoax.
Shortly after the lights went out at 10:00 on Saturday evening as part of the city's plan to perform maintenance at the Jason Substation on Milam Street, someone reportedly called emergency dispatchers and said shots had been fired from a car passing the Jasper Police Station.
Police converged on the area and searched for the suspect vehicle but were unable to locate it or anything connected to the alleged firing of a weapon.
Foster said no evidence was found to support the claim and that he others now believe the call to be a hoax.
