KILGORE, Texas (KLTV) - Police have released the name of a man they say accidentally fired a flare gun while attempting to shoplift from Walmart.
Officers responded to a Walmart in Kilgore on Saturday at about 8:50 p.m. after 911 callers reported a man attempting to hide items and holding a gun, according to a release from the Kilgore Police Department. A caller said the gun went off inside the store and the man was heading to the exit. Police said investigation revealed the item was a flare gun, and that he had fired it by accident, placed it on a shelf and walked away.
However, he turned around and was actively attempting to hide merchandise again when police approached him, according to an affidavit. The document says he failed to pay for 10 items totaling $199.91.
On Monday, police released the suspect’s name. Roy Mack Biggs, 48, of Longview, was booked into the Gregg County Jail and has been charged with deadly conduct and theft of property. His bond has been set at $25,000.
