LIVINGSTON, Texas (KTRE) - A man is dead after a domestic dispute in Polk County, according to the sheriff.
Polk County Sheriff Byron Lyons said that on Sunday at around 8 p.m., deputies were sent to a home in the Southland Pines subdivision to check on a domestic disturbance report.
When they arrived, deputies found a woman who had allegedly been physically assaulted, as well as a man, her husband, who had been shot multiple times. He died at the scene.
Detectives investigated and found that a domestic dispute between the couple had escalated from a verbal fight to a physical one. During the incident, the woman reportedly got a small-caliber gun and shot the man multiple times in the upper body.
EMS responded and took the woman to a local hospital for evaluation. She was later released.
An autopsy has been ordered and will be performed by the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Polk County detectives, as well as the Texas Rangers and the Polk County District Attorney’s Office, are conducting further investigation into the incident. The findings will be presented to a grand jury to determine whether criminal charges against the woman will be pursued.
