Police in Beaumont investigate deaths at west end park

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

Police in Beaumont are investigating what is believed to be a case of murder-suicide involving a woman and a 1-year-old child. Complete details have not been released as officers try to sort out the details, but word is that the bodies of the two were discovered on Saturday in a car at Perlstein Park, which is located on Landis Street, just north of Highway 90 in the Amelia Area on the west side of town. The mother, Briana Monroe, 26, and son, Giavon August, 1, were found inside a car. Police said that when Monroe's family members tried to reach her, their calls weren't answered. The father said Monroe sent a text implying that she was going to kill the child and herself. Monroe's family discovered her 2019 Volkswagen Jetta in gray near Perlstein Park and reported it to the authorities. Jefferson County Justice of the Peace Ben Collins, Sr. has also called for an autopsy in the case.
