PALESTINE, Texas (KLTV) - A Palestine man is in the Anderson County jail after police say he fled from them after an attempted theft on Wednesday.
According to Palestine police, they responded to Walmart regarding a theft in progress. The suspect, identified as Charles Schroeder, 32, of Palestine, attempted to flee in a truck. As he drove off, he struck a police vehicle and another parked car, officials said.
After a short pursuit, Schroeder abandoned his vehicle near the Palestine Mall and ran. He was arrested a short distance away, police said.
His charges from the incident are two counts of unauthorized use of a vehicle, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, evading arrest or detention on foot, duty on striking an unattended vehicle, aggravated robbery, and theft of property greater than or equal t0 $100/less than $750.
His bonds total $640,000. He remains in the Anderson County Jail as of Thursday.
