Jasper Police say one person was critically injured in a two-vehicle auto accident that occurred around 8:00 on Sunday evening on Highway 96 at Hicks Street on the south side of town. Police are still investigating the incident but say it appears that a 2022 Ford Bronco, operated by Louwanna Lunday of Zavalla pulled out from Hicks Street onto Highway 96 in front of a southbound 2020 chevy Colorado driven by Tiffany Mijares. Mijares was transported by ambulance to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital where she was treated for her injuries and later transferred to another hospital for additional treatment. Officers said it was determined that Lunday was intoxicated resulting in her arrest and transport to the Jasper County Jail where she was later charged with Driving While Intoxicated.
