Burkeville Fire Chief Charles Duckworth says one person is dead and another is in critical condition after a fiery Sunday morning crash in Newton County. It happened shortly after 1:00 on Highway 63, about 3 miles west of Burkeville. According to Duckworth, the car was on fire with one person still inside and another person on the ground. Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark said 45-year-old Marlon Jackson, of Wiergate, was driving a 2013 Mercedes Benz E-350 eastbound. She said the car went off the highway, rolled over multiple times, and then hit a tree. The passenger, 23-year-old Sabrina Stephens, also from Wiergate, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Michael Greer. Meanwhile, Jackson is hospitalized in very critical condition. Chief Duckworth said the tree that the car hit was full of bees, so firefighters and paramedics had to deal with a swarm of bees as they were trying to work.
