No one injured when vehicles burst into flames following collision in Beaumont

Three people were able to walk away without injuries after a fiery head-on collision in west Beaumont. The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the Sunday afternoon two-vehicle crash on Keith Road, near Dishman. The preliminary investigation indicates that at about 1:45 p.m. on August 6, the driver of a Honda Civic was traveling south, while the driver of a Chevrolet Avalanche was traveling north. It is reported that the driver of the Honda traveled into the oncoming lane and the driver of the Chevrolet took evasive action to the left to avoid a collision. The driver of the Honda then traveled back into its lane and the vehicles struck head-on, then burst into flames. The driver and the one passenger in the Honda were not injured. The driver is identified as 18-year-old Monica Arellano of Beaumont. The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 47-year-old Casy Engman of Beaumont, was not injured. Capt. Robert Ring with Jefferson County ESD#1 tells KFDM there was a mutual aid response with the Beaumont Fire Department. Capt. Ring says Beaumont Fire had the first engine on scene and put out the fire with assistance from ESD#1. ESD#1 used a brush truck at the scene. The fire charred the road surface and a grassy area nearby.
