Newton Police Chief Will Jackson says two suspects are in custody after multiple auto burglaries occurred late last week. Chief Jackson says the crimes occurred in the southeast side of Newton. Chief Jackson says early Friday morning, one of the suspects, 19-year-old Christopher Spikes, was caught in the act by the vehicle’s owner who detained him until officers arrived. According to Chief Jackson, the arrest of Spikes resulted in information leading police to their second suspect, 20-year-old Destin Trevon Jackson, also of Newton. Both have since been charged with two counts each of Auto Burglary and bond was set on each at $7,000.00. Jackson also had an existing warrant for an earlier unrelated Auto Burglary charge. According to Chief Jackson, Spikes was also involved in another recent rash of auto burglaries in Newton. Chief Jackson said that he was very appreciative of the community for stepping up and assisting police in catching the suspects and stopping the crimes.
