Newton County Sheriff's dog assists in dope find near Buna

Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard said this week that he was proud of what has been accomplished with the department's trained police dog.

According to Havard, the dog known as "Rhino" was called on to assist officers from the Texas Department of Public Safety who were inolved in a drug seizure on Wednesday in Buna.

Havard said Sergeant Chad Ainsworth and K9 Rhino assisted officers with the search of a vehicle where they found nearly 30 grams of suspected methamphetamine, resulting in the arrest of Christina Marie Pinion, 40, who was subsequently charged with Manufacture/ Delivery of a Controlled Substance.

Havard, who is in his first year of serving as sheriff of Newton County said he and his department take great pride in working seamlessly alongside partner agencies to combat illegal activity within our communities.
