A police chase that apparently began in Jasper County and passed through Newton County, ended on Friday evening in Orange County when a State Trooper brought it to an end.
Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard said his department's involvement in the pursuit began shortly after 8:00, when he and others learned that a chase that had began in Jasper County was entering Newton County on Farm to Market Road 363 from Kirbyville.
Havard said that shortly after the runaway vehicle entered Newton County, it turned south on Highway 87 and soon got away from officers. However, Havard says the vehicle was soon spotted again by officer Barry Scarborough and the chase was on again as the vehicle continued into Orange County, soon ending up on Interstate 10 headed west towards Beaumont.
Havard said that as the chase continued, other law enforcement agencies joined in until a State Trooper finally used a trained procedure to take the vehicle down near Vidor, where he and other officers took the suspect into custody.
The runaway driver, Kane Ramirez, 27, of Orange was taken to the Orange County Jail where he appeared before Orange County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Chad Jenkins on Saturday and was officially charged with Evading Arrest with a Vehicle and Driving While Intoxicated. Bond on Ramirez was set at $155,000 and at last word he was still in Jail.
Havard praised both his officers and the others from various agencies who assisted in the apprehension.
