Lake Charles Methanol announced plans for a new $3.2 billion manufacturing plant at the Port of Lake Charles that would turn natural gas and renewable gas feedstocks into blue methanol. Methanol, which is found in hundreds of products, including plastics, synthetic dyes, pharmaceuticals, and perfumes, is also a clean energy resource that can be used as fuel for everything from cars to stoves. The proposed plant, if it moves forward as outlined, would create 123 direct jobs with an estimated average annual salary of nearly $136,000 and 605 indirect jobs in SWLA. It will take about 3.5 years to build and commission the plant, with commercial operations starting in late 2027.
