NATCHITOCHES, La. -- A Natchitoches Parish teacher has been arrested following a report of a battery involving a student at L.P. Vaughn Elementary School.
Kimberly Hayward, 59, of Natchitoches, surrendered to police Monday. She was charged with cruelty to juveniles.
Natchitoches police on Wednesday received a report of the alleged incident. A representative from the Natchitoches Parish School Board said earlier in the week a student in the special education program had an outburst and was hit several times by the teacher.
Following an investigation, officers determined there was sufficient evidence to support the arrest.
She was booked into the LaSalle Corrections Natchitoches Detention Center.
