KIRBYVILLE — Multiple people were injured in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon on North Margaret Street in front of Brookshire Brothers.
The crash occurred just after 2 p.m., according to Kirbyville Police Officer Ashley Arce. Authorities reported that a white SUV was stopped in the turning lane, preparing to enter the Brookshire Brothers parking lot, when it was struck from the rear by a northbound vehicle.
The impact pushed the SUV across the southbound lanes, through a grassy area, and into the store’s parking lot. Officials with Kirbyville Light and Power said the SUV also struck one of the guide wires supporting a nearby utility pole, coming within inches of hitting the pole itself.
Emergency responders transported four individuals to CHRISTUS Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth Hospital. Three passengers were in the car, and one individual was in the SUV.
The driver of the car, identified as Minnie Tyler of Newton, was cited for failure to control speed.
The accident remains under investigation.
