Man in very critical condition after being shot and a suspect is in custody

A man is in very critical condition after being shot in the head and the man accused of shooting him has been arrested. However, the name of the suspect has not been released pending formal charges and arraignment. Jasper County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Karli Cherry says the crime occurred at about 10:00 Saturday night at a location on County Road 42o, just southwest of the Kirbyville city limits. According to Cherry, the victim, 21-year-old Chase Butler, was rushed to St Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont where he was at last word still reported to be in critical condition. Chief deputy Scotty Duncan said Sunday that a 25-year-old man from Kirbyville had been arrested in connection with the incident. Sheriff Mitchel Newman said it is believed the incident occurred following an argument or altercation between Butler and the suspect.
