Newton County Constable chases suspect

Newton County Precinct 1 Constable Colton Havard says he will be going before a judge seeking a warrant for the arrest of an individual following a chase that occurred on Thursday. Havard said he was on routine patrol in the area of County Road 3073, when he attempted to conduct a routine traffic stop on a gray Toyota Scion after it was determined that the vehicle was speeding. However, Havard said the vehicle failed to stop a chase ensued with the car continuing to travel west before the suspect turned on to County Road 3068. He said the chase continued on CR- 3068 until the driver stopped and jumped out the car and ran into a wooded area. Havard said that even though he was unable to catch the suspect, he did gather information that led to the identity of the runaway driver and that he expects to arrest the suspect in the very near future.
