Man dies after being struck by vehicle at front door of Walmart

A man has died after being hit by a vehicle at the front door of the Walmart Store here in Jasper. Police and emergency crews were dispatched to the location shortly after noon on Sunday when it was reported that the accident had occurred. What happened is not clear and an investigation is underway. However, it is believed that the man was crossing the parking lot in front of the east door, or general merchandise side of the store, when he was hit by an eastbound late model Chevrolet Tahoe. The victim of the accident was apparently trapped under the vehicle for some time and was rescued by officers from the Jasper Police Department along with bystanders who pitched in to help until firemen and other emergency personnel could arrive at the scene. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. However, the name of the deceased and other information has not been released pending formal notification of next of kin and completion of the investigation into the incident.
