Man arrested after he attacked a DeRidder police officer

DeRidder Police say a man has been jailed after he attacked and tried to kill an officer. It happened early Monday afternoon after the owner of a business called police to remove the derelict from their premises.

Police say when officers arrived they found 42-year-old Michael Darron Smith, of Baker, Louisiana, was intoxicated and was uncooperative with them. According to the report, Smith attacked an officer and began choking him and tried to grab the officer’s taser.

The report said employees of the business came to the aid of the officers and helped them subdue Smith and get him into custody.

Smith was taken to the Beauregard Parish Jail and charged with seven crimes:

~ Attempted Murder of a Police Officer

~ Resisting an Officer with Force or Violence

~ Resisting an Officer

~ Attempted Disarming of an Officer

~ Entering or Remaining in Places after being Forbidden

~ Operating a Vehicle while Impaired

~ Operating a Vehicle while Suspended for Certain Offenses
