TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - East Texas is getting closer to hosting facilities for America’s second largest retailer.
Amazon’s new 140,000 square foot facility will be located in the North Tyler Commerce Park off CR 334, also known as Center Church Road.
New jobs are expected by the holiday season.
“We’re happy to see the project come to fruition,” says Scott Martinez, President and CEO of the Tyler Economic Development Council.
What started as purchased 30 acre plot of land is now an almost ready Amazon facility.
“We anticipate the construction to be completed by the end of October and then amazon to take possession and set up their operation and be delivering packages,” says Martinez.
Martinez says they’re expecting it to be up and running for the holiday season; handling and processing packages, with jobs readily available.
“Our ultimate goal is for our neighbors to get jobs at these companies we work with,” says Martinez.
They’re also expecting it will add over 100 job positions; full-time, part-time, and seasonal.
“We’re fortunate to have it here that’s gonna serve our residents well,” says Martinez.
Amazon is also paying for a new traffic signal and turn lanes at highway 155 and county road 334 to manage traffic flow.
“Amazon requested no economic incentives or tax abatements on their project and just went out there and started building,” says Martinez.
Located right near I-20, Martinez says it also makes the area increasingly attractive for incomers.
“The access that interstate 20 provides when you’re trying to move things around the region, it’s a major transportation artery,” says Martinez.
With the new Amazon facility almost finished, package delivery will become just a bit more convenient.
“This is the last place the package goes before it reaches your doorstep,” says Martinez.
As of this year, Texas has 28 Amazon fulfillment centers, ranking second in the U.S. after California.
