LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV) - A Longview police officer was shot and injured by a suspect Saturday night.
According to the Facebook post from Longview PD, the incident happened around 11:22 p.m. in the 700 block of Lincoln Drive. Officers had responded to the area for a suspicious activity call which had developed into a vehicle burglary in progress.
Upon arrival, the post says officers found a burglarized vehicle, and a suspicious person in another vehicle soon after. Officers tried to detain the suspect, later identified as Traveon Woodberry Jr., 19, of Longview, which led to a brief chase on foot. Once officers caught up to the man and atempted to handcuff him, Woodberry allegedly pulled out a gun and shot an officer.
The injured officer recieved aid from other officers on the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital. The post says his injuries appear to be non-life-threatening.
Woodberry is being held in the Gregg County Jail on charges of aggravated assault against a public servant, evading arrest, theft of firearm, unlawfully carrying a weapon, and two counts of burglary of vehicle.
