LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV) - The Longview City Council approved an ordinance to allow Fresh by Brookshire’s to sell alcoholic beverages within close proximity to a school. The new Fresh location is set to go along along the corner of Highway 259 and North Fourth Street. However, the location is also 300 feet from the UT Tyler University Academy. The city said staff reached out to the school before Thursday night’s approval. Longview City Planner, Angela Choy said, “Staff just wanted to reach out to ensure no negative impact on surrounding properties, specifically because there was a school directly to the north so that’s why staff reached out. And UT Tyler responded to our request and said they were supportive of the request.” Brookshire’s Grocery Company expects to break ground this year and is expected to open the store in 2025.
