Wills Point police officer fired after arrest for continuous family violence

VAN ZANDT COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - A Wills Point police officer has been both arrested and fired from his job on Wednesday. According to Wills Point Police Chief Aaron W. Long, Officer Christopher Tomlin, 30, was off duty when he was found to be involved in a physical disturbance with a direct family member inside the city limits of Wills Point. Police responded and investigated. Tomlin was arrested on a charge of continuous violence against the family. He was held in the Henderson County Jail on a $25,000 bond until he bonded out on Thursday, March 14. Long said they called in the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit to conduct an outside investigation, since Tomlin was an employee of the City of Wills Point. While the sheriff’s office conducted the outside investigation, the police department conducted an internal affairs investigation, Long said, to discover whether Tomlin had violated any city and/or department policies. He said it was found that Tomlin had violated multiple department policies, and due to the severity of the violation of those policies, Tomlin’s employment with the police department was terminated effective March 13. The Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office completed its criminal investigation and got an arrest warrant signed by 294th District Judge C. Martin for the criminal charge of continuous family violence, a third-degree felony, against Christopher Lee Tomlin. Long added that the Wills Point Police Department finds Tomlin’s actions completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. He said officers of the law are held to a higher standard, to include ethics, morals, and conduct.
