A Vidor log truck driver is undergoing medical treatment and a Sabine County restaurant is repairing damage after a rollover accident which sent a load of logs crashing into the business on Monday evening. Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark said it occurred at about 6:20 at the intersection of Highway 83 at Farm to Market Road 3121.
According to Clark, Gary Paul Miller, 65, was driving a 2016 Mack truck and pulling a full load of logs eastbound on Highway 83 when he tried to turn north onto FM 3121. However, Clark said Miller was traveling at an unsafe speed, which resulted in the truck and trailer rolling over, and the logs smashed into Hemphill BBQ. Clark said Miller received a citation for Unsafe Speed.
Sergeant Clark said Miller was transported by ambulance to St. Lukes Memorial Hospital in Lufkin for treatment. There’s no word on his condition.
Meanwhile, Hemphill BBQ posted on their Facebook page that they would reopen on Tuesday, which they did, although the rear dining room is unusable due to severe damage.
