The CBS show 48 Hours will explore the October 31st, 2020 murder of Livye Lewis, along with the trial and conviction of her killer, Matthew Hoy Edgar, and his 11 month long flight from justice. The episode, titled “The Blackout Murder of Livye Lewis”, will air on KFDM channel 6 on Saturday, January 4th at 9:00pm. The trial was held in January 2022 in the Sabine County Courthouse. Edgar failed to show up for court and went into hiding the same day that the jury found him guilty and later sentenced him to 99 years in prison. Edgar was captured in December 2022 when law enforcement officers found him sitting on the back porch of a house not far from his mother's home east of Hemphill. After a short stay in the Sabine County Jail, he was transferred to the Ellis Prison Unit which is 12 miles north of Huntsville.
