Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

The Kirbyville Cheerleaders have completed an incredible feat. Not only did they make it to Nationals this year, they made it to the finals in their first ever appearance at the competition. The team departed Thursday from Kirbyville with a send off at the Kirbyville Elementary School. Students, teachers, and staff lined the parent pick-up area, cheering on the squad as they walked along the road. The cheerleaders stopped for hugs, photos, and well wishes from the excited crowd. Escorting the team was the Kirbyville VFD and Police, including Scotty Duncan who did a cheer, complete with pompoms as they left the campus. The team flew from Houston to Orlando Florida carrying the hope and dream of doing well at their first appearance at the most prestigious cheerleading competition in the country. On Saturday, the team took to the mat, competing in the Medium Varsity Division II, Non-Tumble Game Day category. Facing stiff competition from a division of 60 teams—split into four groups of 15—Kirbyville was the first to perform in Group C. Kirbyville’s outstanding routine earned a score of 93.1, placing 4th in their group and 8th overall for the division. The score earned them a coveted spot in the semi-finals. The first four teams from the preliminary went straight to the finals and did not have to compete in the semi-final round. On Sunday, the Kirbyville Cheerleaders once again demonstrated that the Wildcats earned a right to compete at the toughest Cheerleading competition in the nation. The judges awarded them a score of 93.3, placing them 3rd in their Semi-final group and 8th overall for the division. Now, the Wildcats are set to take the mat one final time at the National High School Cheerleading Championship, aiming for a top-five finish.
