Jasper Police Chief Garrett Foster said Tuesday afternoon that officers with his department, along with Jasper County Sheriff's Department, conducted compliance checks on two game rooms here in Jasper and ended up shutting them down. According to Foster, the Jasper County District Attorney along with the Texas State Comptroller's Office as well as other agencies also were involved in the operation.
Foster said the move came after the police several reports in recent weeks from people claiming that illegal actives were taking place at the locations which included T&D Game Room at 2416 North Wheeler Street and the game room owned by JSGB Entertainment at 702 South Wheeler Street. He said multiple state and local violations were found resulting in in the closures.
Foster said that an investigation of both operations was continuing and that possible criminal or civil actions could soon be taken against the operators of the establishments.
Foster said the Jasper County Sheriff's Office is now extending its efforts by conducting checks on additional game rooms throughout the county as part of an ongoing investigation along with the assistance of the Comptroller's Office and the Jasper Police Department.
Foster concluded by saying the Jasper Police Department remains dedicated to maintaining a safe environment for the community by eliminating illegal operations that often lead to other criminal activities such as drug trafficking, theft, and robberies. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging the public to report any suspicious activity.
Following the action, Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard said he had no problem with the game rooms if they were complying with the rules and operating legally. However, he said those that violated the rules or laws pertaining to such operation would be dealt with.
