Friends and family members here in the Jasper Area are mourning the death of a local man who died Friday evening in a tragic auto accident near Tyler.
The Department of Public Safety has not released an official report. However, KLTV News in Tyler is reporting that the accident occurred on Highway 271 when a passenger vehicle collided with an 18 wheeled tractor trailer truck.
KJAS Radio News has learned from local law enforcement that the driver of the passenger vehicle, Noah Nichols, 22, was pronounced dead following the crash.
Nichols is the son of Jasper County Precinct 2 Constable Niles Nichols and his wife Heather and the grandson of longtime constable and sheriff's deputy Ralph Nichols who died in early October of this year.
The report said the stretch of Highway 271 was blocked until around 4:00 on Saturday morning as workers cleared the roadway.
