A Jasper County Sheriff’s Department deputy has been arrested by the Texas Department of Public Safety for traffic violations. According to DPS Sergeant Shana Clark, 28-year-old William Treadway, of Jasper, was driving a Chevrolet pickup truck and was stopped by a state trooper shortly after 11:00 Saturday night when he failed to give a turn signal at the intersection of Highway 96 at Lela Street in Jasper. Clark said the trooper discovered that not only was Treadway’s drivers license suspended, he had multiple prior convictions for driving with an invalid license. Sergeant Clark said the trooper filed for and received an arrest warrant for Treadway, and he turned himself in at the Jasper County Jail on Tuesday and was booked in on a Class B misdemeanor charge of Driving While License Invalid. He was later released on a personal recognizance bond set by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace John Cooper. It has not been confirmed, but reliable sources say Treadway was the deputy who shot a gun wielding man early Saturday morning at a home on Bon Ami Road, just north of Kirbyville. Sheriff Mitchel Newman said an officer from his department was called to the location when a woman at the address reported that she needed help. However, no additional information has been released.
