Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard and his deputies are reporting that two people were arrested in the north end of the county on Tuesday after officers spotted what they believed to be illegal drug activity near the Brookeland Country Mart on Highway 96 near the intersection of Farm to Market Road 1007.

Officers said Melissa Clinton, 40, of Brookeland, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence after methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, said to include a meth pipe and a small scale, was found in her possession.

Timothy Lakey, 49, also of Brookeland, was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a Driver’s License. Officers said Lakey’s license had been suspended in connection with a previous unrelated crime.

Both were taken to the Jasper County Jail where they were at last word still being held.
