DERIDDER, La. (KPLC) - Former DeRidder mayor Misty Roberts was back in court today to face fresh charges of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and indecent behavior with a juvenile.
She was arraigned on the latest charges after an appeals court ruling last week nullified an indictment with the same charges because previously recused judges oversaw the proceedings.
Jury selection had already begun when the appeals court threw out the indictment, leading Judge Kent Savoie to order a mistrial.
Prosecutors returned to court this morning and filed a new bill of information with the charges.
The previous indictment also included a misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, but that charge was not on the bill of information.
At the request of the defense, the court has set a preliminary examination of evidence for Feb. 12.
A new trial date was set for Feb. 23.
